JIND: As many as eight people, including a former woman sarpanch, the Khera khap leader, and farmers, were apprehended on Wednesday evening for blocking the Patiala-Delhi highway in Haryana.
The police took action in connection with a road blockade incident that occurred near Uchana Kalan town on April 3, 2022.
The case registered at Uchana police station, involves 16 farmers who had obstructed the Patiala-Delhi highway.

Their demand was for adequate compensation to address the crop damage in the region.
Dushyant Chautala represents the Uchana Kalan constituency and farmers alleged that police are working at his behest.
However, irked farmers gave an ultimatum to the Haryana government till June 18 else a major decision would be taken after holding a state-level meeting of SKM leaders, said Azad Palwan, a farmer leader of Jind district.
Police claimed that all the accused named in the FIR surrendered before the police after a court had declared them PO and sought their property details.
Police made the arrest of Satbir Pahalwan, head of Khera khap and Khatkar toll plaza committee, Kavita, former sarpanch of Kharkramji village, Mewa Singh, from Karsindhu village, Sushil Narwal, Sandeep Chahal, Narayan Dutt, Balbir Fauji.

The police had issued a notice to the farmers, requesting their presence for an investigation. However, when the farmers failed to appear, the court took action and issued notices against them, even going as far as posting them on their houses. Subsequently, when the court sought details of their properties due to their non-appearance, the farmers finally arrived at the police station.
The police now have the task of arresting the remaining eight farmers, having already given them notices. The arrested farmers were brought before the court, which decided to place them in judicial custody for a period of three days, as confirmed by Ravinder Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Uchana Kalan police station.
Expressing his views, farmer leader Azad Palwan highlighted that the farmers were seeking compensation but instead found themselves in jail. He accused the current Haryana BJP-JJP coalition government of suppressing the farmers' voices through force rather than providing them with timely relief.
Palwan further criticized the deputy chief minister for misleading and betraying the people of the Uchana Kalan segment, from whom he obtained votes, by sending farmers to jail.
However, he added that the public will ensure that the deputy chief minister faces the consequences of his actions.
