The bus then smashed into about a dozen vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars, before coming to a halt after hitting a three-wheeler carrying water-campers. In the accident, the driver of the three-wheeler, Surinder Singh, died on the spot. The bus further rammed into the vehicles that were parked outside the hotels and shops near the bus stand. The driver after the accident managed to flee from the area.
Ambala Police came to the spot after receiving the information and took the body of the deceased to civil hospital for a post-mortem.
Ambala Cantonment bus stand in-charge Raj Kishan termed the accident as one of the many which ‘often’ take place. “We check the buses on a regular interval for spotting any technical glitches. Despite that, accidents happen and this was one such accident that often takes place. However, a departmental enquiry would be run against the bus driver who fled from the spot,” he said.
Investigation officer Vriksha Bhan said, “We have registered a case against the driver of the bus under relevant section of the IPC.”
