58-year-old man beaten to death in Kharar, 2 arrested
Mohali: A 58-year-old man was brutally beaten to death in Cholta Kalan village under Kharar sub-division on the intervening night of May 6 and 7. The deceased, Pal Singh, worked as a gardener at the Government Polytechnic College in Khooni Mazra.According to the information, the incident occurred near Deh Kalan–Badala bus stand while Pal Singh was with two local residents, Jagtar Singh and Gurwinder Singh. Suddenly, a group of men — identified as Karanveer Singh, Navdeep Singh alias Nav, Jatinder Singh alias Jotu, Nannu, Sanveer, and 4–5 unidentified youths — arrived at the scene armed with sticks, lathis, and iron rods. Without provocation, they allegedly attacked Pal Singh, leaving him unconscious.Pal Singh's son, Manpreet Singh, reached the spot and raised an alarm. As villagers began gathering, the attackers fled. Manpreet, with the help of passersby, rushed his father to civil hospital in Kharar, where doctors declared him brought dead.Based on Manpreet's statement, the police registered a case under relevant sections against the identified assailants. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
DSP Karan Singh Sandhu confirmed that two of the accused — Karanveer Singh and Jatinder Singh alias Jotu — have been arrested and presented in court. Both were remanded to one-day police custody. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.In a disturbing twist, one of the accused reportedly visited Pal Singh's house after the assault and falsely informed the family that he had met with an accident. When the family rushed to the scene, they discovered about the attack.The police continue to investigate the motive behind the assault.
