50th 'International Literacy Day' was celebrated at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-38 (West), Dadu Majra Colony, Chandigarh with fervour in association with Adult Education Unit, Education Department, Chandigarh at its premises.

CHANDIGARH: 50th 'International Literacy Day' was celebrated at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-38 (West), Dadu Majra Colony, Chandigarh with fervour in association with Adult Education Unit, Education Department, Chandigarh at its premises.
Rubinderjit Singh Brar, PCS, Director Secondary Education, UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest. All the senior officers of Adult Education Unit, Principal and Staff of the School, Area Pardhan, Nodal Preraks, Preraks, Learners and School Students were present on the occasion.
Different activities and competitions like poem recitation, singing competition, elocution contest, poster making and slogan writing were also organised in order to spread awareness about the importance of literacy among the students.

A rally was flagged off by the chief guest and a colourful cultural programme based on the theme of literacy presented by the schoolchildren and learners of the area. Along with this, the rallies were also flagged off in the Adult Education Centres situated in different parts of the city by the Pradhan, Sarpanch or head of the school of the respective areas.
About 100-150 learners participated in each centre. They were carrying the banners to create awareness about the Adult Education Project and their centres functioning in the different parts of the city.
There are about 80 Centres of Continuing Education running in UT, Chandigarh which are helping in spreading literacy among the illiterates population like in colonies, villages and slum areas of UT, Chandigarh through rallies, painting/slogan writing and nukkar nataks etc.
