50% fail traffic test at rose festival
CHANDIGARH: Out of the 110 people who took the traffic awareness test at rose festival, 55 failed. It could well be a wake up call for cops in a city which has the distinction of highest number of vehicles registered per capita in the country. Chandigarh, as it is, reports nearly 150 violations a day.
'We tested people on things like what does a stop sign mean; from which side can cars be overtaken; how are the roundabouts in Chandigarh supposed to be used; whether cars are supposed to remain ahead or behind the yellow line while waiting at a red light.
1x1 polls
A lot of people failed these tests. We were quite surprised that they did not know such easy things,' said a police official at the counter where tests were conducted.
While the highest score in the quiz remained 47 out of 50, the lowest was 17. 'It is exciting to find out how much one knows about traffic rules, especially after driving for many years. I made many mistakes, but I was able to learn something new about traffic rules and how to avoid violations, which is necessary,' said Latika Kaur, a resident of sector 45 who took the opportunity to gauge her driving skills.
