‘48cr given to farmers for crop damage’

Chandigarh: Punjab minister for disaster management Brahm Shankar Jimpa on Tuesday said till September 11, the state government had credited Rs 48.26 crore in the bank accounts of the farmers as crop damage relief.
Jimpa said for the first time a compensation of Rs 6,800 per acre was being given for damage to paddy saplings. He said Rs 33.50 crore was released as advance relief as soon as reports of flood risk were received in the month of July. After this, relief funds have been released to the affected districts from time to time, the minister added.
The compensation is being provided to the affected farmers as per the girdawari reports, he said.
As per the reports received from different districts, compensation of Rs 25.22 crore has been deposited in the bank accounts of the affected farmers of Patiala district so far. Similarly, Rs 7.35 crore has been provided to the farmers of Sangrur district and Rs 5.09 crore to Ferozepur farmer, claimed Jimpa. TNN
