Sangrur police have busted a racket of counterfeiting Rs 2,000 notes and recovered fake currency worth Rs 4.15 lakh.

BATHINDA: Sangrur police have busted a racket of counterfeiting Rs 2,000 notes and recovered fake currency worth Rs 4.15 lakh. The police seized 200 fake currency notes in the denomination of 2,000 and 150 notes of 100.
The accused were arrested from Bhawanigarh town of Sangrur and a scanner and printer recovered from them. Police claimed the arrested persons were printing fake notes for nearly three months, but after the demonetisation they stared printing notes of 2,000.
Sangrur SSSP Pritpal Singh Thind said, “Harbhajan Singh of village Bhaliana, Jasbir Singh of Bhawanigarh, Bhagwan Dass and Jaidev of Sangrur were circulating fake notes of Rs 100.

After demonetisation they also started printing Rs 2,000 notes.“
SSP said that all accused are in their 20s. A white colored car bearing regis tration number PB 10P 0810 was also recovered from them. The accused persons used to hand over the currency notes to some persons identified as Gulshan Kumar and Rajesh Sharma of Sangrur, Bagga of Cheeka in Haryana, Barjesh Kumar of village Dhanas near Chandigarh and Vijay Kumar of village Mangwal near Sangrur, the SSP said.
“The police are investigating the case and efforts are being made to arrest these persons as well. Meanwhile, a case under various sections of counterfeiting has been registered against the accused,“ he added.
