: Vehicles without FASTags had to wait for long to cross the Dappar toll plaza on the Ambala-Chandigarh road on Monday despite the authorities earmarking four out of 12 lanes for cash.
Officials said they are supposed to keep only one hybrid lane on each side according to the norms, they kept two on each side due to heavy traffic movement. But that too did not help.
“On Sunday, around 38,000 vehicles crossed the toll plaza and only 13,864 had FASTags,” said Deepak Arora, toll plaza manager. The authorities are expecting that the percentage would increase by 1% daily. On December 1, only 25% of people had FASTags on their vehicles.
Security officials posted at the toll plaza had a tough time in managing the traffic and instructing people to follow the select lanes. “As there are separate lanes, it is difficult to manage the traffic. Most of the times vehicles come at a fast speed and suddenly apply brakes,” they said.
Had FASTags, but no money in accountAnother problem that surfaced was many people entered the FASTag lane but their balance was found to below the fee of Rs 200 at the time of payment.” Some did it on purpose and then fought with us,” Manish said.
At the same time, it was alleged that local monthly pass tags had become inactive following the FASTag rollout. Even those who have FASTags complained about multiple payments due to wrong input of information. Anju, a resident of

Panchkula, alleged the registration number entered in the FASTag details was different from her car registration number. “As a result I had to make double payment. First, we paid by cash and at the same time money was deducted from my FASTag amount,’’ she alleged.
