As the iron barriers have been erected at entry and exit points of residential areas, they are expected to help reduce the theft incidents.
President of Mohali MC Rajinder Singh Rana said the gates had been erected to keep round-the-clock strict vigil. He added the proposal to construct 39 gates was approved in the house meeting. As many residential areas are still to be covered, another proposal will be brought in the next MC meeting, he said. Rana said that private company had constructed the gates on build-operate-transfer basis and after six years these would be transferred to MC.
