CHANDIGARH: A 37-year-old private company employee, Deepak Alagh, was killed and two of his colleagues injured when their speeding sedan rammed into Hallomajra roundabout, ahead of airport light-point, on Dakshin Marg around 2.30am on Thursday.
The injured -- Kamal Sidhu and Kuljeet Singh, residents of Mohali -- are admitted to GMCH-32. Police said Deepak was driving the silver car recklessly.
The crash completely damaged its front portion.
A police crane was called to bring down the car, which had climbed the roundabout. Alagh, a resident of Sector 70 in Mohali, along with his two colleagues, was taken to GMCH-32 in police Gypsies. There, he succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Assistant sub-inspector Balbir Singh of Sector 31 police station said, "The three were returning from Delhi. They had entered the city from Zirakpur barrier. There were no signs to indicate that another vehicle had hit the car."
Sources in police said accidents took place frequently at the spot because of rash driving on the stretch.
Alagh's body was handed over to his family after a postmortem examination. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
SHO of Sector 31 police station Kirpal Singh said, "Initially, a case of negligent driving was registered against Alagh. Later, it was converted into death due to negligent driving after his demise."
The police have not ruled out the possibility of drunken driving.
