350 cops, 7 nakas: Police ensure peaceful Shivratri at Saketri temple
Times News NetworkPanchkula: Police put in place extensive security and traffic arrangements at the Shiv Temple in Mahadevapura, Saketri, to manage the large influx of devotees on Mahashivratri. Thousands visited the temple through the day, and the festival concluded peacefully under heightened police deployment and continuous monitoring.
Anticipating heavy footfall, police implemented a detailed security plan that included CCTV surveillance, special checkpoints, regular patrolling and a dedicated control room for real-time supervision. Around 350 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order and manage traffic in and around the temple complex.The arrangements were supervised by two assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) and three inspectors, supported by other officers and staff. CCTV cameras were installed across the premises and adjoining areas. Police teams also used binoculars and body cameras to keep watch on the crowd and detect any suspicious movement.To strengthen security further, seven special nakas were set up around the temple and fair area, where vehicles and individuals were thoroughly checked. Emergency response vehicles, PCR units, rider teams and foot patrol teams were deployed to ensure uninterrupted patrolling throughout the day.The traffic police implemented a special plan to prevent congestion and maintain smooth vehicular movement. Diversions and regulated entry points were put in place to facilitate safe access for devotees.Police coordinated closely with the temple management committee to accommodate the heavy footfall. A community langar was also organised for visitors.
