MOHALI: The six libraries in Mohali remain in controversies either over clash between political buffs or due to unpaid salaries. The library staff have not been paid salaries for the last six months.
The staff has knocked the doors of mayor Kulwant Singh to get their salaries released.
Mayor has, in turn, alleged that Congress minister Balbir Singh Sidhu was instrumental in withholding the release of salaries of 24 odd employees working in these libraries.
Kulwant said, "Congress has been claiming the credit for our works since the inauguration and now they are not helping in getting the salaries of the employees released."
Six librarians and other helping staff, during the meeting with mayor, said if the MC did not pay their salaries, they would close the libraries and launch a protest.
Giving the reason for not paying salaries, MC commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg said, "I have been told that the audit department had raised some objections regarding the salary of the employees. The matter will be resolved soon."
