BATHINDA: Twenty farm groups from
Punjab have decided to hold protests during the visits of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi in Punjab’s Doaba and Malwa regions on February 14 and 16, respectively.
No protest will be held on February 17 when the PM will visit Abohar in Malwa. Farm groups have also decided to burn effigies of the PM and the central government for not keeping its word on pending demands, including formation of a committee to deliberate on MSP, withdrawal of cases against farmers and compensation to bereaved farmer families.
The protests will be held under the banner of Sanyukt
Kisan Morcha
(SKM). Union agriculture minister
Narendra Singh
Tomar, some days ago, had said in
Rajya Sabha
that MSP committee will be formed after elections in five states. After the formation of farmers political front
Sanyukt Samaj Morcha
(SSM) to contest elections, the SKM has added some more farm groups to it. Some internal issues are also going on in the farm groups going to polls.
