2 Punjabi songs reported for glorifying drugs

Bathinda: An ardent follower of Punjabi language, Punditrao Dharenvar, has filed two different complaints to the Punjab Police director general of police (DGP) against two songs accusing these to be promoting drugs.The complaints have been made against noted singer and actor Gippy Grewal’s song ‘Jehri Ve’ in film ‘Mitra da naa chalda’ and against song ‘Sniff’ by Vadda Grewal and Elly Mangat. In his complaints on Monday, Dharenvar stated that the Punjab and Haryana high court in its order on July 22, 2019 had given directions to the DGPs of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to ensure that no songs are played glorifying the liquor, wine, drugs and violence, even during live shows.He said the Punjab principal secretary home had banned all the songs that promoted violence and gun culture in a notice memo on November 11, 2022. Dharenvar urged the police to seek reasons for promoting drugs and desi liquor and take appropriate action. In the past also Dharenvar had been making such complaints against singers on promoting gun culture or drugs in their songs. He has also been promoting the use of Punjabi language in Punjab.
