2 held for teen’s rape, but cops flout medical norms

MOHALI

: The police on Saturday night arrested two persons for allegedly

raping a 16-year-old girl

at Derabassi on Friday.

The police allegedly did not accompany the girl for a medical examination. Her father then decided to take her on a rehri but in the meantime a man passing by stopped his car and took the two to the

civil hospital in Derabassi

.

According to the FIR, the accused and victim were residing in the same house as tenants on the ground and first floor. The girl had gone to the first floor of the house to hang clothes. When she was coming downstairs, one of the accused pulled her into their room on Friday evening. The two allegedly raped her. The girl managed to sneak out on Saturday but collapsed outside.

A friend of her father, who was helping him in looking for her, found her lying unconscious and half-naked. After hearing her ordeal, the family took the girl to Mubarikpur police post. While the statement of the father and mother of the victim was recorded in the presence of woman constable Rimpi Rani, she did not accompany her to the civil hospital in Derabassi as per norms. It was then the father decided to take her to the hospital on the rehri.

Sub-inspector Bhinder Singh, Mubarikpur police post in-charge, said, “We didn’t take the girl to hospital but does it matter? The only thing matters is that we have arrested the accused.”

TOI has video in which the girl was taken to civil hospital Derabassi by local resident and no police constable, either male or female, accompanied her.

SSP K S Chahal said they have arrested the two accused but remained mum on why the

police did not accompany the girl to the hospital.
