CHANDIGARH: The last day for submission of Class XI admission forms in government schools on Friday did not witness much rush as all the six centres were devoid of any upsurge.
"During the last three days, the number of students present was very small, leading to a smooth order of things. Moreover, we had set up numerous counters and appointed a large number of teachers which helped in facilitating the process as well," said Kund Bala, principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra.

A total of 16,200 forms have been sold and nearly 15,000 forms submitted, said an education department official. The number of seats was 12,500.
"Most of the students who filled the forms have already secured admission in private schools. Last year, we increased the number of seats, but this year we are not planning to do so," said the official.
A total of 4,269 forms were picked up from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37 B, while GMSSS, Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, sold 3,424 forms.
When asked about last year's trend and expectations from students, Chanchal Singh, deputy director, school education, answered, "Most students opted for non-medical stream followed by medical and commerce. This year I wanted students to make the best use of technology by downloading forms and prospectus from the education department's website, as it is a more environment friendly and convenient option."
The criteria for the selection of students would be merit based only, said J P Sharma, principal, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 28. The common merit list would be displayed on the website's department, www.chdeducation.gov.in. on June 27 at 4 pm.
