151 CBSE schools in HP to have 3 streams

Shimla: Encouraged by a sharp rise in student enrolment after adopting the CBSE pattern in 151 govt schools, Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the introduction of three academic streams — medical, non-medical and commerce — in all these institutions.Sukhu has also asked the education department to complete necessary formalities within a fixed time frame to ensure quality education delivery. As per govt records, several schools have reported significant growth in admissions following the transition to the CBSE pattern. Govt Senior Secondary School, Killar, in Chamba district recorded a 90.24% increase, while Janjehli in Mandi saw a 90.43% jump. Reckong Peo in Kinnaur registered a 50.50% rise, Nerwa in Shimla 52.22% and Ghanahatti 26.27%. Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti saw a 23.40% increase, Theog 16.19%, Nohradhar in Sirmaur 29.69% and Chopal 28.16%. The chief minister said since coming to power, the Congress govt had taken major steps to strengthen the education sector. Himachal Pradesh has improved its national ranking in quality education from 21st in 2021 to fifth position and has also achieved full literacy status.
