MALERKOTLA: Close on the heels of the death of an 11-year-old boy in Malerkotla town, which had sparked off a wave of protests, a 10-month-old child went missing on Friday night. However this time, cops traced the child on Saturday, within 24 hours. The boy, identified as Saqib Ali, went missing on Friday and was recovered from the defence colony, and later handed over to his mother Shakila.

When Malerkotla resident Laldin and his wife Shakila woke up on Friday, they discovered that the child was missing. Police were informed and a case of kidnapping was registered. Malerkotla SP Jaswinder Singh and DSP William Jeji said: "A police team was constituted and the child was recovered from the defence colony late in the night. It looks like the kidnappers left after leaving the child there."
Sources said the role of Laldin was found to be dubious since he had allegedly said that a woman had contacted him and had offered money for the boy. Police officers are not interrogating the man.
