SAMBALPUR: The Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) will rechristen three women's hostels of the institution. The hostels, which are now known as women's hostel-I, women's hostel-II and women's hostel-III, will be renamed after works of Gangadhar Meher. The university authorities have also decided to name the new boys' hostel, which is yet to be allotted to the students, after a literary creation of the famous poet.

said: We have sought public opinion for this purpose through mail or post by December 20. The renaming will be done by December 23.

The students' council of the varsity, which was also asked to give suggestions, proposed that the Women's Hostel-I be called Tapaswini Women's Hostel, Women's Hostel-II be called Padmini Women's Hostel and Women's Hostel-III be called Indumati Women's Hostel. Similarly, it has proposed that the new boys' hostel be called

Arghyathali

Boys' Hostel. Tapaswini, Padmini, Indumati and Arghyathali are famous works of the renowned Odia poet, who is also called

The university authorities have also decided to rechristen the Lecture Gallery (LG)-I, LG-II, and the Central Library. While the LG-I will be named after eminent poet and former principal of the institution, Mayadhar Mansingh, LG-II may be named after freedom fighter and social worker Parbati Giri and the
