BHUBANESWAR: Ruling BJD
and opposition Congress will evenly share the Utkal
University honorary degrees during the forthcoming convocation on April 25, if things move as per the varsity plan. Sources said a high-level meeting of the university has recommended the names of chief minister
Naveen Patnaik and former chief minister and Congress leader Giridhar Gamang for the honoris causa.
The meeting was attended by vice-chancellor P K Sahoo, registrar Kshiti Bhusan Das, PG council chairman P K Mishra among others.
Sources said Naveen's election as chief minister for three consecutive terms, his immense popularity and contribution to the state's development were considered by the varsity authorities while deciding the honour in his favour. Similarly, tribal leader Gamang, who is popular for his performance on tribal musical instrument 'Changu,' was a natural choice for his contribution to tribal culture and society.
