Ulaka alleges privilege breach

Koraput: Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka has alleged a serious breach of parliamentary privilege by Odisha's director general of police (DGP) and deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Bhubaneswar.In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Friday, the Congress MP detailed an incident that took place on March 26, 2025. According to Ulaka, he was illegally detained by police personnel around 10:30 am while attempting to enter the assembly in his official capacity as an MP."Despite clearly identifying myself and asserting my constitutional right to access the premises, I was heckled, manhandled, forcibly stopped, and illegally detained at the Reserve Office Bhubaneswar for more than three hours. As a result, I was unable to attend Parliament that day," Ulaka stated in his letter.The two-time tribal MP emphasized that the incident constituted a "grave breach of parliamentary privilege" under Article 105 of the Constitution and Rule 222 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha. He warned that such actions obstruct the functioning of elected representatives and undermine the dignity of Parliament.Ulaka has urged the speaker to refer the matter to the Committee of Privileges for immediate and appropriate action against the officers involved.
