Two Covid centres in Silk City to shut down

BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam district administration has decided to close two out of the five dedicated Covid health centres in Berhampur from Monday. The decision was taken due to fall in number of Covid patients.
"The Covid health centre at City Hospital and Meenakhi Nagara will be closed," Ganjam district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said. Covid patients won't be admitted in these two hospitals from Thursday.
City Hospital was turned into a Covid care centre on April 29 when cases surged in the district. The hospital has 100 beds, including 25 for pregnant woman who test positive for Covid.
"Following the government order, Covid patients who were undergoing treatment here have been referred to other hospitals. Only five patients were undergoing treatment in the hospital on Wednesday. While one of them was discharged after recovery, the rest have been referred to other hospitals," said Prasant Kumar Patra, supervisor of the covid care centre at City Hospital.
"Before City Hospital starts re-admitting general patients, thorough sanitization and cleaning will be done while the instruments that had been removed will be installed," Patra said. He, however, said the fever clinic will function to find out symptomatic patients.
Kulange said they would upgrade City Hospital along with three other sub-divisional hospitals at Aska, Bhanjanagar and Chhatrapur and install liquid oxygen storage vessel, which was recently set up at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
The district collector said as flow of Covid patients to the hospital has declined, they would soon take a decision to close two other Covid hospitals in Berhampur and other areas. While five Covid health centres were set up in Berhampur, similar centres were also set up at Aska, Bhanjanagar, Hinjili, Chhatrapur and Patrapur areas.
