BERHAMPUR: Three brothers were on Monday sentenced to life for the murder of a 43-year-old man at Kaulpanga village under Phulbani Sadara police station limit about a year ago.
Sushant Patel, the additional judge of the court of Phulbani in Kandhamal district, sentenced Madhab Digal (45), Bipin Digal (40) and Kishor alias Narendra Digal (37) to life imprisonment for conspiring to kill Sukru Digal of the same village on September 10 last year.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 12,000 on each of the accused persons.
"After realization of the fine money, the amount should be paid to the wife of the deceased, the court ordered," said additional public prosecutor SN Tripathy. The court found the three brothers guilty of murder after recording the statements of 14 witnesses in the case, he added.
According to the prosecution, the accused brothers had hacked Sukru to death on the outskirts of the village when he was returning after relieving himself. When another person Appa Digal tried to stop them, they also launched an attacked on him. Appa was hospitalized and died during the trial of the case.
After hacking Sukru to death, they laid his body in the middle of the village and started dancing on it and also drank his blood, sources said. The trio were arrested on the same day after the wife of the deceased informed police about the incident.
