Teachers protest over ‘lack’ of benefits

Thousands of primary school teachers in the city of Bhubaneswar walked the streets on Tuesday to demand their eight-point charter of demands, including the cancellation of their deputation and abolition of the excadre provision, from March 1 of this year. They are also demanding their salary be disbursed through the treasury, the implementation of the old pension scheme, and the provision of adequate benefits and facilities like toilets and drinking water. The teachers were marching towards the assembly when the police blocked their way, leading to a minor clash.

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of primary teachers hit the streets here on Tuesday over their eight-point charter of demands, including cancellation of their deputation, abolition of the ex-cadre provision, and cadre inclusion provision from March 1, 2017.
They are also demanding their salary be disbursed through treasury and implementation of the old pension scheme.

The teachers were marching towards the assembly when police blocked their way leading to a minor clash. “Despite being regularised since 2017, we have been deprived of several government benefits. We are not getting our salary from the treasury nor are we getting any increments. We have not been included in the pension scheme,” said a teacher.TNN
