Teacher donates cash award to fund student’s education

Rourkela: An assistant teacher at Govt Primary School in Sundargarh district’s Balishankara block gave away the cash prize she was awarded under the Mukhyamantri Sikhya Puraskar to help a student complete her studies.Kamalini Singh, was conferred with the chief minister’s education award on Teachers’ Day last year along with a Rs 25,000 cash prize. She recently decided to hand over the amount to Tanupama Tajan, a meritorious Plus 3 science student and an alumnus of the school, to help her continue with her studies as her father has been facing financial constraints.

Singh handed over the cheque to the student in school on Wednesday in the presence of other teachers, block education officer of Balishankara and members of the school managing committee. “I received the award because of my students. If the prize money can help shape someone’s future, there can be no better use of it,” Singh said.
