The incident apparently took place on Wednesday when the teacher allegedly threw a sandal at the student following a dispute over cleaning his plate following the midday meal, a charge denied by the teacher.

According to a complaint filed by the boy's mother, the incident took place while students were waiting to clean their plates after lunch. She alleged that the teacher scolded her son for some unknown reason, causing him to leave the spot. Following this, the teacher threw a sandal that struck the child.

The complaint was registered on Thursday evening after the boy reported the incident to his mother.

During police questioning, the teacher, though, claimed that several students, including the complainant's son, were throwing plates while they were in the queue, which could endanger others. The teacher said that when the boy ran away leaving his sandal behind, he merely threw it in his direction, in a bid to return the sandal to him.

"We have initiated a preliminary investigation and spoke to the headmaster, staff, students and the accused teacher," said Sipora Saraya Lugun, IIC at Muribahal police station. "Initial findings suggest no such incident occurred as described in the complaint. But our investigation is on."
