Swine flu claims another life in Bhubaneswar

A 42-year-old man died of swine flu in Bhubaneswar on Sunday raising the total H1N1 deaths in the state this year to three, director public health Kailash Das said.

BHUBANESWAR: A 42-year-old man died of swine flu in Bhubaneswar on Sunday raising the total H1N1 deaths in the state this year to three, director public health Kailash Das said.
Das said the deceased was an employee of the state fisheries department. He was admitted in a private hospital in the state capital for past some days in a critical condition.
Number of swine flu cases is not too many with only 11 persons tested positive from among around 60 whose swab samples were tested in past two months.

The mortality rate, however, seems higher compared to previous years with three out of 11 succumbing to the disease, which more than 25 per cent, public health experts said. All three persons died within the last one month.
Das said contrary to expectations H1N1 cases had not subsided with increased temperature. The virus seemed to be behaving a little different this time, he said, adding conditions of those having other medical complications are becoming complicated.
On February 11, one Bisambar Dalabehera of Sunabeda area in Koraput district died of swine flu in a Bhubaneswar hospital. He was admitted in the hospital for heart attack. While seeking treatment, he tested positive for H1N1.
On February 1, a 42-year-old college teacher, native of Mukundprasad in Khurda district, died of swine flu at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. He was diabetic.
At least 32 persons were killed from the disease in Odisha in 2010 while the years from 2011 to 2014, there were very few deaths from H1N1.
