BHUBANESWAR: The Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested a henchman of notorious gangster Sheikh Hyder at Kendrapada, in connection with a firing case in Cuttack last year. The accused was identified as Chunu Khan.
"Khan along with some other criminals had opened fire on five members of a family, having enmity with the Hyder gang. Other accomplices would be netted soon," ADG (Crime Branch) B K Sharma told TOI.
The incident took place at Mohammadpur under Kishorepur police limits in Cuttack Sadar on October 12, 2012.
Sources said Hyder engaged his goons to eliminate five members of the family, who were on their way in a car from Kendrapada to Cuttack. The criminals opened fire on the five persons, including Salma Khatun, who once had a close relationship with Hyder, Crime Branch sources said.
"The relationship between Hyder and Khatun strained after she got married in September last year. Hyder asked her to return a land which he had gifted to her during their good old days. When she refused, Hyder wanted to take revenge on her," another police officer said.
