After a long gap, a group of school children attended a

heritage walk

in

Old Town

area recently and got to learn about the heritage sites and monuments of this part of the city. For the kids, who were with their parents, it was time to immerse in the morning positive vibes of the old town and listen to the chants of mantras and beating of temple gongs around them.

In a bid to educate kids about the rich

cultural heritage

of the city and make them realise their responsibilities towards this, a group of city residents that include culture enthusiasts, architectures and heritage lovers, organised this maiden heritage walk-

Ekamra Kshetra

. “Our idea is to connect young minds and make them aware of their past. Bhubaneswar has a history going back to

Neolithic age

and its residents should know about this. The young students were introduced to various temples in and around the region. They were explained about the history and architecture and legends associated with temples and sacred ponds in the area,” said

Jitu Mishra

, an organising member.

Instead of organising such walks for tourists, they are planning these detours for city people and mostly students, who they feel should know about the rich history of their place. The experts explained every aspect with interesting facts and legends and in an easy-to-understand language for the students. “It was satisfying seeing the kids ask various questions and discuss among themselves what they learnt from us,” said the organisers.
