BHUBANESWAR: Husband of a sarpanch was shot at and injured by armed miscreants inside a roadside hotel near Khurda late on Sunday. The injured, Janaki Baral, 43, was first rushed to a nearby hospital in Khurda and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after his condition deteriorated, police said.
Baral along with four of his friends was having dinner at Daleiput Chhak along the NH-5 when a gang of four persons barged into the hotel around 1 am and fired thrice on Baral.

While two bullets hit his right thigh, the third bullet pierced his stomach. "His condition was critical though doctors removed the bullets," said a doctor.
SP (Khurda) Dilip Kumar Das said cause of the attack is still unknown. "We suspect previous enmity behind it. His friends and rivals are being questioned," Das told TOI. Till reports last came in, police detained two suspects in connection with the firing. Asked whether the attack was fallout of his wife's possible political rivalry, police said, "We are inquiring from all angles."
