Berhampur: Police on Sunday seized 100 kg of sandalwood being allegedly smuggled in a car at Kamalapur under Mohana police station limits in Gajapati district. The sandalwood is valued at around Rs 1.5 lakh, the police said.
Two persons — Jaman Khan and Sujaudwin Khan of Khurda — arrested for smuggling of sandalwood.
“During vehicle checking, police detained a car and found a bag full of sandalwood. A detailed investigation is on,” said Dillip Kumar Nayak, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), R Udayagiri.
It was the second time in the last three days, police have seized sandalwood being transported illegally. On Friday, police seized around 77 kg of sandalwood, valued at around Rs 1 lakh, and arrested two persons at K Sitapur under Kashinagar police station limits.
