Rourkela: Rourkela police on Thursday inaugurated an Integrated Control Room at the district police office. The facility is a key component of the city’s predictive policing initiative, aimed at enhancing surveillance, crime prevention, and rapid response capabilities.
DIG (western range) Brijesh Kumar Rai inaugurated the control room in the presence of SP (Rourkela) Nitesh Wadhwani and other senior officials. Addressing the media, the officers said the new set up will strengthen city-wide monitoring and coordination.
So far, 220 CCTV cameras have been installed across strategic locations in Rourkela, including 100 solar-powered units, facial recognition system (FRS) cameras, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. The control room is equipped to track real-time activities, detect suspicious movements, and alert field units instantly.
A standout feature of the initiative is the launch of a community partnership model. Over 651 private road-facing cameras have been mapped, with more than 400 owners voluntarily sharing live feeds. These will be integrated into the police surveillance network, marking a new chapter in citizen-police collaboration.
Citizens are encouraged to join the “Pledge Your Camera” initiative by registering on
www.rourkelapolice.in or contacting 8763146477. The integrated control room has dedicated cells for CCTV, ERSS, smart e-beat, VHF, and traffic. Its predictive tools will help identify crime hotspots, track vehicles, and manage law and order situations efficiently.
