Rlys santions 14.7cr for Balasore subway work

Bhubaneswar: The railway board has sanctioned Rs 14.7 crore for construction of subway near Nidhipanda bridge in Balasore district. It is an important bridge in Haldipada-Balasore section of Kharagpur-Bhadrak section. During a meeting on June 21, local people had urged railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to construct a subway near Nidhipanda bridge (Bridge No 259). Vaishnaw had assured the villagers to meet their demand. The designing team of the Railways had immediately prepared the design for subway which was approved by the competent authority. The area gets waterlogged during monsoon and the crossing under the bridge becomes unapproachable cutting connectivity to villages. To solve this problem, a survey was immediately conducted for provision of alternate, safe arrangement for vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians. A subway of five-metre width and five metres in height has been proposed at the approach of the bridge at Kharagpur end. This subway will be used for passing of all kinds of vehicles. Construction work will commence soon. As the area is prone to waterlogging, a second subway has been proposed having dimensions of 4m width X 2.7m height.

The Railway Board has allocated Rs 14.7 crore for the construction of a subway near Nidhipanda bridge in Balasore district. The bridge is situated in the Haldipada-Balasore section of the Kharagpur-Bhadrak section. The subway is being built to address the issue of waterlogging during the monsoon, which makes the bridge inaccessible and disrupts connectivity to nearby villages. The subway will be wide enough to accommodate all types of vehicles, including heavy vehicles, and a second subway is also planned to withstand heavy water discharges. Construction is expected to begin soon.

Work on underground part of subway after monsoon: PSCL

Construction of the underground portion of the subway connecting GPO to Patna Junction in Patna, India, is expected to begin after the monsoon season. The project, estimated to cost Rs 84 crore, will include a 440-meter-long underground passage connecting the two locations, as well as walkways, escalators, and lifts. The construction work has been delayed due to a sub-judice matter involving an old building along the stretch. Once completed, the subway will provide easier access to Patna Junction for commuters.

2km Chandor subway detour upsets locals

Former BJP MLA Clafacio Dias has highlighted the inconvenience caused by the replacement of a level crossing with a Limited Height Subway (LHS) in Chandor. While the LHS has benefited locals in many ways, heavy vehicles cannot pass through due to its 2.7m barrier height. The Public Works Department (PWD) and Railways have built a new road to bypass the subway, but residents in the area have to take a 2km detour to reach their homes. Dias has urged the government to find a solution, including constructing an alternative road and widening the existing one.
