Bhubaneswar: Puri collector Arabind Agarwal on Wednesday submitted his inquiry report, relating to the proposed Iskcon temple row, to the housing and urban development minister Pushpendra Singhdeo.
While BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra kicked up a controversy by claiming that Iskcon is planning to construct a Jagannath temple bigger than the original one in Puri, the Iskcon asserted that they are going to construct a Radha-Krishna temple.
"I have gone through the case record and it is crystal clear that the Iskcon's application never mentioned a Jagannath temple. The approval was given for an institutional complex with bhakta niwas, temple, administrative building, museum and prasad bhawan. However, the brochure published by Iskcon indicates that a similar type of structure like Jagannath Temple in Puri has been proposed," said the report (copy with TOI).
On Tuesday, the Puri Konark Development Authority served a notice to Iskcon restricting any construction activities for the proposed temple in view of legal dispute over the ownership of the site. tnn
