BHUBANESWAR: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday laid the foundation stone for three new railway line projects in north Odisha on the routes of Badampahar-Kendujhargarh, Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, and Buramara-Chakulia. The estimated cost of these projects is Rs 6,295 crore.
The Badampahar-Kendujhargarh new line will connect Keonjhar district with Mayurbhanj district. This 82 km new line will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,107 crore. It will create a north and north-east rail corridor in the state.
The Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani new line project is a very important project to connect Odisha’s northern part with Jharkhand. This 86 km new line project will be developed with an expenditure of Rs 2,549 crore.
The Buramara-Chakulia new line project will be constructed with an expenditure of Rs 1,639 crore. This 60 km rail line will connect the north-eastern part of Odisha with the Howrah-Mumbai main line.
President Murmu also laid the foundation stone for a Tribal Research and Development Centre and the development of Dandbose Airstrip at Rairangpur. She also laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed hospital at the sub-divisional hospital, Rairangpur. The hospital will come up with an estimated cost of Rs 52.4 crore.
On the last day of her visit, she met locals in the morning. Among others, chief minister Mohan Majhi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, state ministers, MPs, MLAs, and officials were present.
