BHUBANESWAR: After lying defunct for about eight months, commissionerate of police's official website (http://bhubaneswarcuttackpolice.gov.in) has got a fresh lease of life. The website will be further upgraded with more information, new commissioner of police R P Sharma told TOI.
On June 10, TOI had carried a report on the defunct website. Sharma, who assumed the charge on August 12, reviewed the functioning of the website on August 22.

"The website contained outdated information. We updated it on August 22. Soon the website will be more informative and interactive," Sharma said.
"We are in the process of engaging some skilled employees to update the website regularly," he added.
His predecessor Sunil Roy had written a letter to the DGP, expressing difficulty to update the portal owing to shortage of skilled manpower, official sources said.
The website, which was created in 2010, went kaput on January 10. Information in almost all the segments, including inspector-in-charge of some police stations, their contact numbers, wanted list and tenders, was outdated.
"The website needs to have a section where common people can air their grievances and know action-taken reports. Police in other cities are encouraging police-public interface through social networking sites to control law and order and regulate traffic," said Orissa high court lawyer Bibhu Prasad Tripathy.
