: Over 450 construction workers, whose children are pursuing technical education in government-run institutes, in

Ganjam

district have registered their names in a special enrolment camp held here by the labour department. The five-day special enrolment camp for registration of construction workers concluded on Monday.

The camp was organized from March 15 to help the construction workers register their names and get benefits from the government to facilitate their children pursue technical education.

"The workers, whose children are pursuing study in the government-run industrial training institutes (ITIs) in Berhampur, Chhatrapur, Hinjili and Purushottampur, government polytechnic, Berhampur, and diploma in Uma Charana Patnaik Engineering School here, have registered their names to get financial benefits for their children," said district labour officer (

), Berhampur, Babulal Patra.

The state-owned Odisha building and other construction workers welfare board will provide financial assistance to the children of the workers for pursuing technical education, added, DLO, Chhatrapur, Siba Narayan Sahoo.

will get Rs 7,000 per year as stipend. Similarly, each student of construction labourers will get Rs 10,000 per year while studying diploma courses in engineering schools and government polytechnics. Their children will get Rs 40,000 per annum while pursuing degree in engineering, an official source said.

"Earlier we had asked the students of the ITI to tell their parents to get their names registered to avail the financial benefits," said

Principal, ITI, said they provided all necessary help to the labour department to hold the camp on the premises of the institute.
