BHUBANESWAR: Police on Thursday detained a person suspecting his involvement in Wednesday's attack on a priest in a mutt near Puri. The suspect was resident of Nilakanthapur village near Karamala where the Ananda Shanti ashram is located. "We are questioning him. The real culprits would be arrested soon," a police officer said.
Unidentified miscreants opened fire at baba Gopal Chandra Das when he was sleeping in his ashram, about 90 km from here.
Pellets from the country-made pistol pierced several parts of his body. Das is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
Arabinda Mohanty, inspector-in-charge of Gadisadaga police station on Thursday said the attack was engineered by some local hooligans, who wanted to usurp lands of the ashram at Karamala.
