Ollywood remembers singer Vani Jairam

Bhubaneswar: Odia film industry remembered legendary singer Vani Jairam, who sang over 50 Odia songs for films, among others. Jairam died at the age of 77 in Chennai on Saturday. She was selected for the Padma Bhushan on January 25, 2023. “I have sung only one song with her ‘Kuhu kuhu bane…’ in the film ‘Sati Anusuya’, which was quite popular. And the experience of singing with her was unforgettable. Indian music both classical and film songs has lost a great voice,” said Subas Dash, a noted Odia singer.Vani Jairam made her debut in Odia film industry in 1976 in the film ‘Krushna Sudama’ with ‘Chhoto moro e-ghara..’. She has crooned for many Odia film songs composed by noted Odia music composer Prafulla Kar. Some of her famous songs included, ‘Keun nama dhari dakibi tumaku…’, ‘Megha barasila tupuru tapuru…’, ‘Dhali dia sara…’, ‘Adina malli mahaku…’. The films are Gouri, Balidan, Alibha Daga, Puja, Pati Patni, Hira Moti Manika, Tapasya, Jai Maa Mangala and so on. Jairam also bagged state film awards apart from National Film Award and Filmfare award for playback singing and state awards in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat.Odia singer Geeta Da said, “Though I did not sing with her, her contribution to Odia film music was immense.
