In letter to the principals of government, non-government aided colleges and higher secondary schools, LK Tripathy, asked them to be more careful and prevent the illegal practice of private tuitions by the teachers.

"The principals should take undertaking from all teachers or demonstrators in every academic session, making sure that they will not engage in private tuitions," he added.

He asked the college heads to follow the instructions of the government in letter and spirit. "Any deviation in the matter will be viewed seriously and action will be taken for violating the Orissa Service Code and Orissa Education Act," Tripathy said.

The government has prohibited lecturers, readers and demonstrators of colleges from giving private tuitions on their own or through coaching centres for past several years.

The government has been suggesting the same every year in its common minimum standard guidelines for the colleges.

Tripathy said despite such restrictions, some teachers have been allegedly involved in giving private tuitions without being sincere about their respective classes in colleges. The government as well as the directorate have received several allegations from different quarters on the same, he added.

Tripathy's letter assumed significance as the assembly speaker and MLA (Digapahandi) SN Patro had recently alleged that a teacher of

After a direction from the secretary, the RDE of Berhampur had conducted an inquiry into the allegation recently and spoke to students and teachers. "I have conducted an inquiry into the allegation. The report has already been submitted to the government," the RDE said.
