Bhubaneswar: Mizoram governor Kambhampati Hari Babu was appointed governor of Odisha on Tuesday following the resignation of Raghubar Das as Odisha governor, a press communique from the President's secretariat said.
Sources said Das, who took over as Odisha Governor in Oct 2023, resigned from the governor's post citing personal reasons. Speculation is rife that the former CM of Jharkhand is likely to return to active politics in his home state.
Hari Babu (71) a native of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, 71-year-old Hari Babu was appointed Mizoram governor in July 2021. General Vijay Kumar Singh (retd) will take his place as governor of Mizoram.
Hari Babu was elected to the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly from the Visakhapatnam-1 assembly constituency in 1999 and to the Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency in 2014. He was a member of the task force constituted by the Centre for the interlinking of rivers from 2003 to 2004. A PhD holder, Hari Babu worked as a faculty member for 24 years at Andhra University Engineering College before taking the political plunge.
President also appointed Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, governor of Bihar, as governor of Kerala, while Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan was appointed as governor of Bihar. Ajay Kumar Bhalla was named as governor of Manipur.
