Keonjhar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated and laid foundation stones of projects worth Rs 1,900 crore here on Wednesday.
Starting a two-day visit to the district, the CM addressed a gathering at the Dharanidhar University ground and said: “Now is the correct time for development of Keonjhar district.” He was inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of 71 projects worth over Rs 1,900 crore for the district.
According to the report, the CM laid foundation stones of 35 projects worth a total of Rs 1,708 crore and inaugurated different projects worth about Rs 194 crore were dedicated to the public. This includes Keonjhar’s school, hostel, irrigation, parking zone, road construction, pond improvement, tourism project, library, career counselling centre, primary health centre and Anganwadi building.
The CM said: “Since the foundation stone of the Maa Tarini project was laid, the rocket engine has been fitted to double-engine vehicle of Keonjhar’s development. The land of Keonjhar district has excellent natural resources and rich cultural heritage and hardworking people. This land has contributed immensely to the economic strength of Odisha.
Starting from minerals to forests, from agriculture to human resources, Keonjhar has always provided strength to the growth of the state. “Keonjhar district will be one of the best districts in the state. As a steel city, Keonjhar will further contribute to the economy of Odisha. Almost all the roads in Keonjhar will be made six-lane-wide and a ring road will be built in the next 3 to 4 years. In that order, foundation stones of 35 projects worth Rs 1,708 crores have been laid and 36 projects worth Rs 194 crores are being inaugurated for Keonjhar.
The CM laid foundation stone for the Regional Plant Resource Centre (RPRC) in Keonjhar at an investment of Rs 50 crores. He also laid foundation stones for setting up 147 model Anganwadi centres at an investment of Rs 38.22 crore, building block-level stadiums in six blocks at an investment of Rs 101 crores. Along with this, he inaugurated the Transformed Nicholson Forest Training School (NFTS) in Champua at an investment of Rs 14 crore. Similarly, he inaugurated ‘Khani Shakti’, in DMF fund to provide skill training to local youth in the mining sector at a cost of Rs 9.6 crore.
Majhi further added: “Our govt is working towards balanced development of the state. After 2000, I had raised my voice against this regional disparity many times inside and outside the Assembly. Because my own district was a victim of this regional disparity. As soon as our govt came to power, our govt immediately formed a task force for North Odisha and South Odisha Development Councils to resolve people’s grievance. After the report comes, these two development councils will be fully functional.
On this occasion, Majhi released a coffee table book titled ‘Birds of Keonjhar’.
