BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Friday appointed R

Vineel Krishna

, a 2005-batch IAS officer, as the chief executive officer of a special purpose vehicle that would work for developing the state capital as Smart City.

Krishna, who recently returned from central deputation, is also given additional charge as managing director of state-run Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).

The 36-year old officer from Andhra Pradesh shot into limelight in February 2011 after he was abducted by Maoists during his tenure as district collector, Malkangiri.

On February 16, 2011, he was abducted by Maoists and subsequently released on February 24 following intervention of the state government.
The state government also effected a minor reshuffle among top bureaucrats. Industries secretary, Sanjiv Chopra, a 1990-batch IAS officer is given additional charge as new chairman, OMC.

While 2003-batch IAS, Nitin Bhanudas Jawale would now only serve as director, tourism and chairman-cum-managing director of the state-run Odisha Tourism Development Corporation Limited, his senior Girish S N (2002-batch) is shifted to Jawale’s place as director, special projects under panchayati raj department.
