Odia girl Kashika secures world amateur ranking

Bhubaneswar: Odia girl Kashika Mishra has secured a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) at the age of 16. Winning the Amway Nutrilite Golf Tour — ITC Classic event that took place from May 17 to 19 in New Delhi helped her to achieve this.It was a qualifying event for the FCG Callaway World Championship Junior Golf Tournament 2023 at Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage, California, in July 2023. She has also been selected for the tour.Kashika, born to Brigadier TK Mishra and Kiran, hails from Dharakot in Ganjam district. Her talent in golf was spotted at the age of 12, when she started practising full time in 2019 in Delhi, where her father was posted then. Her father, a keen golfer himself, noticed her potential and started taking her to the golf course and has been her first coach. Later her full-time coaching started with a professional coach in Gurugram. Now she trains with renowned coaches at DLF Academy.Kashika has won nine tours she participated in 2022-23 and was runners-up twice, most notably the Amway Nutrilite tour WAGR. As his father is posted away from Delhi for the last two years, her mother Kiran helps her in everything these days.The Class XI student attends school whenever she is not away playing any tournament. Her school in Gurugram supports her with extra classes adjusting to her golf schedule. Kashika performs well in studies too, securing a percentile of 90 regularly.
