BHUBANESWAR: An experimental Odia documentary film, 'Raati O Bhaya' (Night and Fear), made by city-based filmmaker Lipika Singh Darai, will premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on Thursday.
It has also been nominated for the Tiger Award, a highly competitive section of the festival where it will compete with selected films from across the globe.
"This is probably the first time an Odia documentary is competing in the Tiger competition in the Rotterdam film festival," said Lipika.
Being one of the largest film festivals of the world, the IFFR is considered comparable in size to other major European festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin and Locarno. It focuses on independent, artistic and experimental films from across the globe.
"The film is a personal essay. The unfinished, untold residuals of recorded material generated by me over the years have aged just enough to correlate and run a parallel narrative. The past, the present, the fear and the intuitive self, have found shelter in the characters and spaces from the world captured through image and sound," said Lipika.
