Not happy with govt’s cyclone management: BJD

BHUBANESWAR: Kendrapada BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera on Saturday criticised state govt for mismanagement in providing the required assistance to people affected by Cyclone Dana. He alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo politicised the relief work by inviting a BJP MLA for a review meeting.

Behera said Singh Deo conducted the review meeting at the Kendrapada Collector’s office on Friday regarding the Cyclone Dana situation. “Only the BJP MLA from Mahakalapada attended the meeting, whereas four BJD MLAs, including me, were not informed about this. I do not know why the govt is doing this. He should call everybody for the meeting. It was not a party affair,” he added.

He said the people of Kendrapada also complained to the Deputy CM that the required assistance was not provided to them. “If the govt repeats such bias in the future, we will vehemently protest that,” he added.

Mahakalapada MLA Durga Prasan Nayak said the BJD should refrain from politicising the issue at this difficult time. “Behera is making baseless allegations. We take everybody on board to tackle the natural calamity. Sometimes we need to be sensitive during natural calamities instead of inserting politics into every matter,” he added.

BJD Spokesperson Lekhasri Samantsinghar said the BJP govt in Odisha was weaving stories related to Cyclone Dana. “People of the state are laughing at the BJP govt for creating a hype about Cyclone Dana and mismanaging the relief work. Odisha people are remembering former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the champion of disaster management,” she added.

The BJP said the state govt managed the situation very well. “Some people sitting in Bhubaneswar are asking absurd questions to the govt. But they should visit the affected areas and then tell what the govt has done,” said Manoj Mohapatra, Odisha BJP Spokesperson.
