Naveen Patnaik congratulates Odia Army officer on key posting
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday greeted Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty on the latter’s appointment as General Officer-Commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-chief) of the southern Army command. The highly decorated Army officer C P Mohanty is from Jagatsinghpur in Odisha.

Sources said in his 37-year-old Army stint, Mohanty spearheaded several key assignments. Mohanty commanded a battalion on LoC in regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Mohanty, who is cousin brother of senior Odia IPS officer Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi, also commanded counter insurgency operations in the North East. Mohanty, son of retired senior state government officer Jitendra K Mohanty and late professor Sarada Mohanty, succeeded Lt Gen SK Saini, who is scheduled to take charge as new vice chief of the Army on Saturday.
