KORAPUT: The Koraput district police have appealed to the president of Maoist-backed Chasi Muliya Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) Nachika Linga and other misguided youths associated with rebel activities to shun violence and join the mainstream.
"We appeal to all those youths, including Linga, who have been misguided by anti-socials to surrender as the path of violence will lead them nowhere.
The administration will help them in every way to settle in life," said superintendent of police (Koraput) Awinash Kumar. The administration's appeal comes a day after the surrender of the bodyguard of Linga.
Police said posters will be pasted in the remote Maoist pockets to wean people away from the rebels and various mediums will be used to reach inaccessible areas. "The posters will carry pictorial messages about the benefits of deserting Maoist organization and details about the prevailing surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government," the SP said.
Linga who leads the CMAS, reportedly a Maoist backed organization, in Narayanpatna is in the wanted list of police for his involvement of around 30 Red offensives ranging from forcible occupation of around 3000 acres of non-tribals land, murder and attacking Narayanpatna police station in 2009. At present, Linga is on run.
Given that the Red organisation uses the CMAS as a shield to carry out its unlawful activities, police well understands that weakening of the CMAS will make their fight against extremism easier in Narayanpatna.
A senior police officer said that if Linga desires to surrender then he will be rehabilitated as per the prevailing surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government. "If anyone desires to surrender will be facilitated to lead a normal life. He or she will be helped in getting married, education to them or to their family members, and starting some business of their own so that they can lead a self sustained independent life," the SP said.
