The chairman of state task force of National Tuberculosis Elimination Programmer (NTEP), Dr Manoranjan Pattnaik, who visited the institute on Tuesday, instructed the hospital authorities to make the laboratory operational by September. The laboratory is being developed under National Health Mission (NHM).

Pattnaik said the hurdles in making the laboratory operational have been fixed. “A letter has also been issued to the hospital authorities for training of staff to make the laboratory operational. The training will be held either at IRL or at RMRC,” he said.

“For liquid culture of suspected TB cases, the samples are now sent to Cuttack, which is time-consuming. However, early detection will be possible at Vimsar, once the laboratory becomes operational, resulting in early treatment of patients,” he said.
