: A day after authorities cancelled all activities related to the inter-college meet following a clash between two groups, the students’ union of the Berhampur institute on Wednesday appealed to continue their without inviting other students.
The clashes left several students injured, including two from , Cuttack. The students’ union of SCB alleged their group was attacked by a mob of over 500 students armed with sticks, iron rods and glass bottles. Fire extinguishers were sprayed, causing breathing difficulties and several students sustained injuries from broken glass and stone pelting.
MKCG students’ union president Biswabhusan Jena said, “We have already given advance of around Rs 30 lakh to the event organisers and singers to organise the culture programmes. The amount will not be refunded. So we request the principal to allow us to hold the cultural programmes.”
“It’s an unfortunate incident,” Jena said and assured that such incidents would not happen in future. “We hope college authorities will consider our request,” he added.
College authorities held a meeting of the council, where they decided to not organise any further function, after SP (Berhampur), Saravana Vivek M, advised them not to allow any event in the present circumstances.
